With record rain in the UK in June and July, house purchasing has increased abroad.  Notably not all countries are witnessing this trend, but Turkey is on the up and up.

These findings are reported by HiFX (www.hifx.co.uk), a firm that analyses property-buying and identified enquiries up by 46 percent in June and 40 percent in July.

Close to home, France, Italy and Spain were showing an uptake, whilst, the emerging markets of Turkey, Morocco and Cyprus were performing well.  Turkey and Cyprus representing 6 percent of enquiries in July (both 5 percent the month before), and Morocco 1 percent last month.

Turkish Homes Abroad notes that the Association of International Property Professionals, AIPP, www.aipp.org.uk has made the following comments regarding Cyprus: "As many of you will know, the area known as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by some or northern Cyprus by others, is home to disagreement in that part of the world as well as some confusion in the international property market.  For some time now, the AIPP Board has been discussing the issue of whether property can legally be sold in this area and whether we should allow Members to sell there. After much discussion, an interim decision has been made.  The Association is to employ the services of a senior barrister in London, a QC with extensive experience of the northern Cyprus question. We will ask this barrister to give us his highly qualified legal opinion on the legality of property sales in northern Cyprus, taking into account the positions of the European Union, the UK Government, NATO and the European Court of Human Rights as well as, of course, taking account of international property law.  Once his opinion is delivered to the Board, a full decision can be made as to the AIPP’s position on this matter. Until that decision is made, applications from companies selling in northern Cyprus will be held back from full approval. Whilst no decision has been made to forbid sales in northern Cyprus, any AIPP Member thinking of adding this to portfolio is recommended to wait until we have the full decision. If you are already selling there, we are not requesting that you stop immediately though we do recommend that you are very careful in this difficult area."
